Seed Award 2019 cooking contest (Spain, 17 September)

On 17 September at Almeria Central Market, nine young talents competed for a place in the final of the Sakata Seed Award 2019 at Fruit Attraction.

The dream of these nine young promising chefs from all over Spain, who came together in Almería, is to work for three months at the Lasarte restaurant of the prestigious 10 Michelin-starred chef Martin Berasategui.

The panel of judges had the difficult task of evaluating the contestants on their delicious and creative bimi and pumpkin tapas. The panel was comprised of Dani Muñoz, the young and talented chef and owner of the ‘Travieso restaurant’, Francisca Perez, chef and owner of ‘La Encina restaurant’, Mariela Perez, chef and owner of ‘Tu Chef Talleres Almeria’, Javier Bernabéu, CEO of Sakata Seed Ibérica and Cari Plaza, Head of Sakata’s Communication Department.

Finally, after much deliberation, the three winners selected were Jesús Jiménez, from Malaga, for his ‘Bimi strudel with pumpkin emulsion and scallops’, Julia Caparrós, from Barcelona, for her ‘False pumpkin tataki with Bimi chips’ and Fátima Soler, from Valencia, for her ‘Roasted pumpkin hummus with crunchy Bimi’.

Next stop… Fruit Attraction on 22, 23 and 24 October!
